We work with all types of stone and particularly with marble. We have been tilers for many years and have progressed to polishing, refurbishing and cleaning stone as well.

It takes experience to work with stone as the material differs allot in nature depending on the type of stone. There are potential pitfalls and mistakes to be made if the installer or stone polisher has not had the adequate experience.

Tiling with stone

Stone is pretty fragile and needs to be treated with care. Its also porous and so one needs to use appropriate fitting techniques, adhesives and sealers in order to do a top quality job. Adequate substrate prep is a must and we will almost always use a suitable uncoupling membrane. Good patience is required to install nicely , we can help with stone installation and we can also finish it properly as well.

Stone/marble finishing and polishing

Stone can be honed and polished to look shiny and fresh! This only works with smooth surfaced stone and you will be surprised how old tired stone can be cleaned and made to shine!

We are able to polish marble, slate , travertine, limestone and we can do light refurbishment work with granite.

Sealing and cleaning marble and stone

One needs to approach the cleaning of stone with great care as allot of stone can be damaged by acidic cleaning agents. This includes marble, limestone , travertine and sandstone. 

We will generally use mild alkaline and PH neutral cleaning detergents to aid us in removing grime and staining. We then use powerful steaming equipment to lift heavy soiling although we find that the polishing process removes most of the surface dirt and marks.

Its very important to seal the stone when cleaning is done as this will preserve the cleaning efforts and also protects the stone from staining. Even if your marble seems to be nonporous, try and work some sealer into the stone or tiles.
