Quarry tile cleaning and restoration is something we actively undertake focusing on North London, West London and Hertfordshire. We have however done this work in Essex, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire as well.
Quarry tiles are very similar to Victorian style tiles to clean and we are able to thoroughly remove all ingrained dirt oils and sealers. Once clean we have different sealing and waxing solutions to thoroughly protect the tiles and bring out the color. Please scroll down for pics and examples of my work.
How do you wax quarry tiles?
A common way to wax quarry tiles is to apply a modern acrylic wax that is readily available from most tile product suppliers and tile shops. This wax has different names but will be called things such as ” High gloss finish”, “Tile color enhancer” , “Tile sheen finish” etc. Its important to know that this type of wax is a topical coating that sits on the surface of the tile and becomes a barrier. It will protect the tile and enhance the color. One needs to apply a good 5-6 coats to get the desired gloss and depth level to the tiles that may be required.
The quarry tiles in the pic below were waxed using a Fila Satin acrylic wax and I applied about 6 coats. With just 2-3 coats there would have been much less shine.
My Quarry tile restoration service
I am able to completely rebuild damage floors and deep clean the tiles as well. We will naturally thoroughly seal and wax the tiles professionally.
It is a bit of a struggle to source appropriate quarry tiles so I do ask that clients retain loose tiles and do whatever they can to get the tiles we will need to do the restoration work.
I have used the red 15cm square Victorian reproduction tiles made by Olde English and Original Style quite often to fill in the gaps but there is a slight difference in texture and appearance. Other times I have found good matches in reclamation yards and even on Ebay.
In this quarry tile pathway (above) the tiles where lifted, prepared then installed. Everything was then professionally cleaned and sealed. I also restored the Victorian tiles on the porch and installed new York stone steps.
Why choose my service?
I believe I am probably more experienced than most when it comes to the installation, repair and finishing of quarry tiles. I have been involved in the specialist tiling and restoration game for at least 10 years now and have gained valuable experience. I also only do quality work and things will be finished to the best possible degree that they can. I do not let details go by and things will be done well! Please see some of my work pics below.
In the pic above this is only one quarter of a floor where every tile had to be lifted and re layed. The tiles had expanded causing them to lift off the screed and so I introduced expansion joints periodically through out the floor. I then deep cleaned and waxed all the tiles to perfection!
In this job above there was allot of plaster and old screed and cement all over the tiles. It was quite a joy removing all of this to bring out the color and make these tiles look great again.
The transformation of the tiles ( in pic above) occurred in under a day. Luckily there was allot of mold making this pathway look so dirty. Mold is very easy to remove and with the appropriate chemicals it literally disintegrates before your eyes. The white you can see in the pic on the left towards the top is the chemical dissolving the mold.
I am happy to clean and repair all exterior tiles, stone and patios. I can repoint and do anything you may require.
Areas covered include North & West London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Potters Bar , Muswell Hill, Chiswick and more.
